On January 15, 2018, Fresh Gravity employees decided to make the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday a “day on” instead of a “day off” by volunteering their time to help those less fortunate. Employees in both our Washington, D.C. and Bay Area locations completed service projects for the community during the day. Not only was it a great opportunity to give back, but it was also a great team bonding activity.
In Washington, D.C., our employees joined a total of 272 other community, faculty, student, and staff volunteers to participate in Northern Virginia Community College’s (NOVA’s) 9th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. In addition to donating hygiene products, Fresh Gravity employees helped sort and pack over 500 pounds of food for the various college campus food pantries. The NOVA food pantries exist to provide no cost food and necessities to NOVA students who might otherwise have to decide between these purchases or remaining in school.
On the other side of the United States, Fresh Gravity employees in the Bay Area gave back at a homeless shelter in San Jose known as HomeFirst by assisting in the kitchen with meal preparation. After chopping 50 pounds of onions, bell peppers, oranges, pineapples, melons, and bread, employees were able to serve lunch to the patrons. As Dee Babaria, Operations Manager, noted: “it was an exhilarating experience to witness and help the less fortunate. [I’m] proud to be part of such a great team.”
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said: “Everybody can be great because everybody can serve.” Fresh Gravity employees were happy to answer this call to serve and look forward to additional opportunities in the future to give back.
